This part of IEC 62271 applies to the procedures for handling of gases and gas mixtures for insulation and/or switching during installation, commissioning, repair, overhaul, normal and abnormal operations and disposal at the end-of-life of high-voltage switchgear and controlgear.
These procedures are regarded as minimum requirements to ensure the reliability of electric power equipment, the safety of personal working with these gases and gas mixtures and to minimize the impact on the environment. Additional requirements could be given or specified in the operating instruction manual of the manufacturer.
For each gas or gas mixture, which is known to be used in electric power equipment at the date of the publication of this document, a separate annex describes specifications, handling procedures, safety measures, etc. For gases or gas mixtures not covered by these annexes the electric power equipment manufacturer should provide the information needed, following the structure of these annexes. Such gases or gas mixtures should also be described in a next edition or in amendments to this edition.
NOTE 1 For the use of this document, high-voltage (HV) is defined as the rated voltage above 1 000 V. However, the term medium-voltage (MV) is commonly used for distribution systems with voltages above 1 kV and generally applied up to and including 52 kV.
NOTE 2 Throughout this standard, the term "pressure" stands for "absolute pressure".
NOTE 3 Reference is also made to (Cigré Brochure 802, 2020).
NOTE 4 For further details on gases, e.g. ecotoxicology, also refer to the chemical database ECHA (www.echa.europa.eu), which takes the actual volume band into consideration.
NOTE 5 When reference to circuit-breakers is made, only gas circuit-breakers are of interest. When vacuum circuit breakers are of interest, they are explicitly mentioned.

This part of EN 50152 specifies requirements for prefabricated metal-enclosed traction switchgear for alternating current of traction voltages and frequencies as specified in EN 50163:2004 and used in indoor and outdoor installation. Enclosures may include fixed and removable components and may be filled with fluid (liquid or gas) to provide insulation.
NOTE 1 EN 50163 specifies the a.c. traction systems 15 kV 16,7 Hz and 25 kV 50 Hz
NOTE 2 This standard applies to single-phase or two-phase systems.
For metal-enclosed traction switchgear containing gas-filled compartments, the design pressure is limited to a maximum of 300 kPa (relative pressure).
NOTE 3 EN 62271-203 can be used as a guide for design and testing in case the design pressure of gas-filled compartments exceeds 300 kPa (relative pressure).
Components contained in metal-enclosed traction switchgear are to be designed and tested in accordance with their various relevant standards. This document supplements the standards for the individual components regarding their installation in traction switchgear assemblies.
This document does not preclude that other equipment may be included in the same enclosure. In such a case, any possible influence of that equipment on the traction switchgear is to be taken into account.
NOTE 5 Switchgear and controlgear assemblies having an insulation enclosure are covered by EN 62271-201. For definition see there or IEV 441-12-06.

IEC 61800-5-3:2021, which is a product standard, specifies requirements and makes recommendations for the design and development, integration and validation of safety-related encoder (Encoder(SR)) in terms of their functional safety considerations, electrical safety and environmental conditions. It applies to Encoder(SR), being sensors as part of a PDS(SR). This document can also be referred to and used for Encoder(SR) in any other safety-related application, for example safety-related position monitoring.
This document is applicable where functional safety of an encoder is claimed and the Encoder(SR) is operating mainly in the high demand or continuous mode. The requirements of IEC 61800-5-2:2016 for PDS(SR) apply to Encoder(SR) as applicable.
This document includes additional or different requirements for Encoder(SR). It sets out safety-related considerations of Encoder(SR) in terms of the framework of IEC 61508 (all parts), and introduces requirements for Encoder(SR) as subsystems of a safety-related system. It is intended to facilitate the realisation of the electrical/electronic/programmable electronic (E/E/PE) and mechanical parts of an Encoder(SR) in relation to the safety performance of safety sub-function(s) of an Encoder(SR).

This European Standard covers d.c. metal-enclosed and non-metallic enclosed switchgear
assemblies used in indoor stationary installations of traction systems, with nominal voltage
not exceeding 3 000 V.
It is intended that individual items of equipment, for example circuit breakers, housed in the
assembly are designed, manufactured and individually tested (simulating the enclosure when
necessary) in accordance with their respective parts of EN 50123 or, when appropriate, with
another applicable standard.
NOTE 1 The requirements covered in this European Standard are those concerning the assembly as such, its
enclosure and the mutual influence of the equipment enclosed.
NOTE 2 EMC requirements are covered by EN 50121-5 and additional requirements concerning dependability
(RAMS) are covered by EN 50126.

This part of IEC 62271 applies to compact switchgear assemblies consisting of at least one switching device directly connected to, or sharing components with, one or more other devices such that there is an interaction between the functions of the individual devices. Such assemblies are made up of devices defined in 1.101 and are designed, tested and supplied for use as a single unit. The interaction between devices may be due to proximity, sharing of components or a combination of both. The assemblies may contain components of air insulated switchgear (AIS) only or a combination of AIS and gas insulated switchgear (GIS), so called mixed technology switchgear (MTS) and may be delivered entirely prefabricated or partially assembled.

IEC 62271-104:2009 applies to three-pole alternating current switches for rated voltages 52 kV and above, having making and breaking current ratings, for indoor and outdoor installations, and for rated frequencies up to and including 60 Hz. This standard is also applicable to the operating devices of these switches and to their auxiliary equipment. The main object of this standard is to establish requirements for switches used in transmission and distribution systems. General-purpose switches for this application are designed to comply with the following service applications:
- carrying rated normal current continuously;
- carrying short-circuit currents for a specified time;
- switching of mainly active loads;
- switching of no-load transformers;
- switching of the charging current of unloaded cables, overhead lines or busbars;
- switching of closed-loop circuits;
- making short-circuit currents.
A further object of this standard is to establish requirements for limited-purpose and special- purpose switches used in transmission and distribution systems. Limited-purpose switches shall comply with one or more of the service applications indicated above. Special-purpose switches may comply with one or more of the service applications indicated above and, in addition, shall be suitable for one or more of the following applications:
- switching single capacitor banks;
- switching back-to-back capacitor banks;
- switching shunt reactors including secondary or tertiary reactors switched from the primary side of the transformer;
- applications requiring an increased number of operating cycles;
- switching under earth fault conditions in non-effectively earthed neutral systems.
This standard cancels and replaces IEC 60265-2:1988. The major changes with respect to IEC 60265-2 are as follows:
- alignment with IEC 62271-1 and IEC 62271-100;
- requirements for capacitive current switching aligned with those in IEC 62271-100: classes C1 and C2 are introduced.
This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 62271-1:2007, IEC 62271-100:2008, IEC 62271-102:2001  and IEC 62271-110:2005.
