Plastics piping systems for water supply and for buried and above ground drainage, sewerage and irrigation under pressure - Oriented unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) - Part 1: General

This part of prEN 17176 specifies the general aspects of oriented unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-O), for solid wall piping systems intended for water supply, pressurized sewer systems and irrigation systems to be used underground or above-ground where protected to direct sunlight.
In conjunction with prEN 17176-2, prEN 17176-3, EN ISO 1452 4, it is applicable to PVC-O pipes, PVC-O fittings, and valves, their joints and to joints with components of other plastics and non-plastics materials intended to be used for the following:
a)   water mains and services lines;
b)   conveyance of water for both outside and inside buildings;
c)   drainage, sewerage and treated waste water under pressure;
d)    Irrigation under pressure.
It is applicable to piping systems intended for the supply of water under pressure up to and including 25 °C (cold water), intended for human consumption and for general purposes as well as for waste water under pressure.
This part of prEN 17176 is also applicable to components for the conveyance of water and waste water up to and including 45 °C. For temperatures between 25 °C and 45 °C, prEN 17176-2:2017, Figure C.1 applies.
The piping system according to this European Standard is intended for the conveyance of cold water up to pressures of 25 bars and especially in those applications where special performance requirements are needed, such as impact loads and pressure fluctuations, up to pressure of 25 bars.

Dieser Teil von prEN 17176 legt die allgemeinen Eigenschaften von orientiertem weichmacherfreiem Polyvinylchlorid (PVC O) für vollwandige Rohrleitungssysteme fest, die für die Wasserversorgung und für erdverlegte und nicht erdverlegte, vor direkter Sonneneinstrahlung geschützte Abwasser- und Bewässerungsdruckleitungssysteme vorgesehen sind.
Zusammen mit prEN 17176 2, prEN 17176 3, EN ISO 1452 4 gilt er für PVC O Rohre, PVC O Formstücke und Armaturen, deren Verbindungen untereinander sowie Verbindungen mit Bauteilen aus anderen Kunststoffen und aus anderen, nicht aus Kunststoff bestehenden Werkstoffen, die für folgende Anwendungs¬gebiete vorgesehen sind:
a)   Versorgungs- und Hausanschlussleitungen;
b)   Transport von Wasser sowohl außerhalb als auch innerhalb von Gebäuden;
c)   Entwässerung, Abwasser und behandeltes Abwasser unter Druck;
d)   Bewässerung unter Druck.
Er ist anwendbar auf Rohrleitungssysteme, die für die Versorgung mit Wasser unter Druck bis einschließlich 25 °C (Kaltwasser) für den menschlichen Gebrauch und für allgemeine Zwecke sowie für Abwasser unter Druck vorgesehen sind.
Dieser Teil von prEN 17176 gilt auch für Bauteile zum Transport von Wasser und Abwasser bis einschließlich 45 °C. Für Temperaturen zwischen 25 °C und 45 °C gilt prEN 17176 2:2017, Bild C.1.
Das Rohrleitungssystem nach dieser Europäischen Norm ist für den Transport von Kaltwasser mit Drücken von bis zu 25 bar vorgesehen, und besonders bei solchen Anwendungen, bei denen besondere Leistungs-anforderungen gelten, wie z. B. Stoßbelastungen und Druckschwankungen, bis zu einem Druck von 25 bar.

La présente partie de la prEN 17176 spécifie les aspects généraux des systèmes de canalisations à paroi compacte en poly(chlorure de vinyle) non plastifié orienté (PVC-O) destinés à l’alimentation en eau, aux branchements et collecteurs d’assainissement et aux systèmes d’irrigation sous pression, enterrés ou aériens, lorsqu’ils sont protégés des rayons directs du soleil.
Conjointement avec la prEN 17176-2, la prEN 17176-3 et l’EN ISO 1452-4, elle s’applique aux tubes en PVC O, aux raccords en PVC-O et aux robinets ainsi qu’à leurs assemblages, et aux assemblages avec des composants à base d’autres matériaux, plastiques ou non plastiques, pouvant être utilisés pour les usages suivants :
a)   les conduites principales et les conduites de branchement ;
b)   le transport de l’eau à l’extérieur et à l’intérieur des bâtiments ;
c)   les branchements et collecteurs d’assainissement et les systèmes d’eaux usées traitées sous pression ;
d)    l’irrigation sous pression.
Elle s’applique aux systèmes de canalisations destinés à être utilisés pour l’alimentation en eau sous pression jusqu’à 25 °C (eau froide) inclus, destinée à la consommation humaine et à des usages généraux, mais aussi aux eaux usées sous pression.
La présente partie de la prEN 17176 s’applique également aux composants pour le transport de l’eau et des eaux usées jusqu’à 45 °C inclus. Pour des températures comprises entre 25 °C et 45 °C, la prEN 17176-2:2017, Figure C.1 s’applique.
Le système de canalisations conforme à la présente Norme européenne est destiné au transport d’eau froide jusqu’à des pressions de 25 bar, notamment pour les applications dans lesquelles des exigences de performance spéciales sont nécessaires, par exemple en cas de charges dynamiques et de fluctuations de la pression, jusqu’à une pression de 25 bar.

Ta del standarda prEN 17176 določa splošne vidike orientiranega nemehčanega polivinilklorida (PVC-O) za podzemne in nadzemne trde cevne sisteme za oskrbo z vodo, kanalizacijo in namakanje pod tlakom, kjer so ti sistemi zaščiteni pred neposredno sončno svetlobo.
V povezavi s standardi prEN 17176-2, prEN 17176-3 in EN ISO 1452 4 se uporablja za cevi in fitinge iz orientiranega nemehčanega polivinilklorida ter ventile, njihove spoje ter spoje s sestavnimi deli iz drugih polimernih in nepolimernih materialov, ki se uporabljajo za:

This document (EN 17176-1:2019) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 155 “Plastics
piping systems and ducting systems”, the secretariat of which is held by NEN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by October 2019 and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by October 2019.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
EN 17176 consists of the following parts, under the general title Plastics piping systems for water supply

Introduction
The System Standard, of which this is Part 1, specifies the requirements for a piping system made from
oriented unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) and its components. The piping system is intended
to be used for water supply, pressurized drainage, sewerage, treated waste water and irrigation
systems to be used underground or above ground where protected from direct sunlight.
In respect of potential adverse effects on the quality of water intended for human consumption, caused
by the products covered by this part of EN 17176, the following is relevant:
a) This part of EN 17176 provides no information as to whether or not the products can be used
without restriction.
b) Existing national regulations concerning the use and/or the characteristics of these products
remain in force.
Requirements and test methods for PVC-O components are specified in EN 17176-2 and
CEN/TS 17176-3:2018. For other components (not manufactured from PVC-O) reference is made to the
following standards: EN ISO 1452-3 (PVC-U) and EN 12842 (Cast Iron). Characteristics for fitness of
purpose (mainly for joints) are specified in EN 17176-5.
This part of EN 17176 specifies the general aspects and characteristics of materials.

1 Scope
This part of EN 17176 specifies the material characteristics of oriented unplasticized poly(vinyl
chloride) (PVC-O) solid wall piping systems intended for water supply and for buried drainage,
sewerage and irrigation under pressure or above-ground where protected from direct sunlight.
In conjunction with EN 17176-2, CEN/TS 17176-3 and EN ISO 1452-3, it is applicable to PVC-O pipes,
PVC-O fittings, their joints and to joints with components of other plastics and non-plastics materials
intended to be used for the following:
a) water mains and services lines;
b) conveyance of water for both outside and inside buildings;
c) drainage, sewerage and treated waste water under pressure;
d) irrigation under pressure.
Joints constructed of other materials will meet their own standards in addition to the fitness of purpose
requirements specified in EN 17176-5.
It is applicable to piping systems intended for the supply of water with a maximum allowable operating

pressure (PFA) up to and including 25 bar . The piping system according to this document is intended
for the conveyance of cold water up to and including 45 °C and especially in those applications where
special performance requirements are needed, such as impact loads and pressure fluctuations.
For temperatures between 25 °C and 45 °C, EN 17176-2:2018, Figure C.1 applies.
NOTE It is the responsibility of the purchaser or specifier to make the appropriate selections from these
aspects, taking into account their particular requirements and any relevant national regulations and installation
practices or codes.
